Upcycle an APRON from Summer dresses

OK

I have been so busy trying to stock up my ETSY shop that I haven't been able to dedicate enough time to my new blog and unfortunately I have to keep this one short and sweet as well. It's a beautiful day outside and I'd love to get the kids out for some fun in the sun as well as work on a new project I have coming up for you....Anyway! Here are some pics of a new little recycled sewing project I've started. I hope it catches on as I think it's a cute way of reusing old dresses that either don't fit anymore or you find at the thrift store and just can't help but buy. All three of these dresses were purchases at second-hand stores or thrift stores. I actually put a lot of thought into these before I even rip one seem or cut one thread. Some things to considder before cutting are:
  • Full or half apron?
  • Are you going to have enough fabric for waist ties and neck ties or are you going to have to use a coordinating fabric for those?
  • Does it have pockets or are you going to add pockets?
  • What size/sizes can it accommodate?
This dress was originally a size 10 Petite. By the time I finished cutting and sewing everything back together I only had enough waist tie to accomodate a size XS or SM. I could have used a coordinating fabric and made it large enough for a Medium, However, I decided that would distract from the pattern and just used the fabrid I had. The neck tie is adjustable and has 2 buttons for each end. The Pocket is made from the flounce I had leftover in the back of the dress. I was also able to salvage the zipper to use at another time...BONUS! More pics and info can be found on my ETSY shop where she is for sale.

This Polkadot lovely had some damage to the top of the dress and had to be made into a half apron. I use new cotton for the waist ties and made them long enough to tie in the front or back for nearly any size women. It already had these cute little gathered pockets. She has been SOLD....I loved her. She will be missed.

What FUN this was to make. The halter top made for a beautiful, sexy and flirty apron. Luckily on this one, I had enough waist tie to accomodate an XS, S, or Medium build. She is also for sale in my ETSY shop. Just click on the link for more information.

I hope you enjoyed these! Be sure to post your UP-CYCLED APRON on my FLICKR page. Thanks for visiting...See you soon!

XOXO
Krista

  1. Those aprons are BEAUTIFUL! Great idea to use old summer dresses!

I would love if you came and linked this project to my clothes upcycling project page. It has a long term linky, so your project would stay there for more than just the week of a usual linky. We have over 90 projects linked up now – some fantastic ideas.
Do come and take a look!
